Math/Science Tutor – Mark Otter, Ph.D. 

Teaching/tutoring philosophy/practice:  Experts are terrible teachers because they have made many steps of what they do unconscious. For the past 10 years, teaching at SUNY, Jefferson Montessori Academy and at ITT Technical Institute, I’ve spent considerable time rediscovering conceptual steps in math and physics that help students understand and master these subjects.  I also am very alert to missing fundamentals and am willing to help shore up weaknesses in student preparation for the subject I’m tutoring. I’ve been consistently highly rated by students; both for clarity of presentation and for mentoring  ability.

 

Charges: $10 first hour, special introductory rate, $20 per hour thereafter.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Physics, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagn, 1987

14 years experience as Biomedical Engineer, 10 years teaching

Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, inquisitive, creative and resourceful

Excellent skills in communication and collaboration
