Hello,

I am a professional tutor available for middle school, high school, and college students in the Philadelphia and South Jersey Region.

In my prior experience, I have served as Director of Instruction for SCORE! Educational Centers, where I developed tutoring programs of study, trained and managed a tutoring staff, and worked with hundreds of students to develop academic success and a love of learning. Since leaving SCORE!, I have been tutoring privately and at The Princeton Review, where I am a Master Tutor, running classes and private tutorials at all levels of test preparation, including the SAT, GRE, SSAT, ISEE, SAT Subject Tests in Math, Physics, US History, and Literature, and providing admissions counseling to high school and college students.

My teaching expertise is in mathematics of all levels, and I have guided students through Pre Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, and Calculus including AP AB and BC, and similar courses by other names (Math Analysis, Intro to College Algebra, etc…) If you are curious whether I tutor in a subject other than the above, please contact me to discuss details. I do not tutor in Foriegn Languages at the present time.

I work especially well with students suffering from math anxiety, or who feel that classroom material is being presented in a confusing or abstract manner. My focus with students is on developing a firm and grounded understanding of the material, which builds confidence in current work and allows them to take skills learned in tutoring forward into all future classes. In essence, I teach a way of thinking about math which is necessary for problem solving and reasoning, both critical skills in all academic subjects.

My teaching philosophy centers around conceptual understanding and transferability of skills. I teach math and any other subject with the aim of addressing current problems in class (grades, homework, etc.) and also the student's approach to math as a subject. How does this student think about the problems? Is the current way of thinking going to be sufficient in coming years? Does the student feel confident and capable, and how is this being reflected in their performance at school? It is my belief that students should never find math frightening, overwhelming, or otherwise inconvenient. I have convinced many tough sells that Math can, amazingly, be enjoyable, and it should be learned as such.

As a full time tutor, I am available all days and times with few exceptions. I usually meet with students once a week for a 2 hour session. Some students prefer to meet for 1 or 1.5 hour meetings. Generally, longer than two hours is too much for most students, while less than one hour typically does not allow enough time to cover an adequate amount of material. Meetings are usually held at the student's home, although I have met with students at libraries, school tutoring rooms, starbucks, etc. All of these are fine provided that parents are aware of the location if the student is a minor.

My current rate is 100/hr. Please contact me for further details regarding times, days, locations, or with any other questions. I hope to hear from you soon, and get started making this subject work for you or your student.
